The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity

NATURE INC. RECORDS IUCN DEBATE ON FINANCIAL VALUE OF ECOSYSTEM SERVICES.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) study was initiated at the end of 2007 by a powerful international partnership that included the German government, the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Its aim is to show the usually unmeasured financial cost to the world of the loss of ecosystem services.

The first phase of the report was published late in 2008. To mark the release the Director General of IUCN convened a debate at the General Assembly of the Union in Barcelona in October 2008. Nature Inc was on hand to record the session.

On this page you can find an edited version of the 90 minute debate with Pavan Sukhdev, TEEB study leader, as the key contributor.

You can also find here a link to a full transcript of the event.
